Design & Technology

At Our Lady of Good Help, Design & Technology is an inspiring and practical subject. The children solve real and relevant problems, within a variety of contexts with a focus on critical thinking whilst considering their own and others’ needs.  D&T skills are taught so that the children can apply these skills using their creativity and imagination to become problem solvers. We follow the design, make and evaluate process and the children are taught to combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding in order to design and make a product fit for purpose. Within this subject the children are encouraged to show their individuality as well as work as part of a team.  D&T allows children to apply the knowledge and skills learned in other subjects such as science, maths, computing and art. The children are encouraged to become innovators and risk takers inspired by engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with a real-life purpose.

“Technology makes possibilities. Design makes solutions.” John Maeda
