Design & Technology
At Our Lady of Good Help, Design & Technology is an inspiring and practical subject. The children solve real and relevant problems, within a variety of contexts with a focus on critical thinking whilst considering their own and others’ needs. D&T skills are taught so that the children can apply these skills using their creativity and imagination to become problem solvers. We follow the design, make and evaluate process and the children are taught to combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding in order to design and make a product fit for purpose. Within this subject the children are encouraged to show their individuality as well as work as part of a team. D&T allows children to apply the knowledge and skills learned in other subjects such as science, maths, computing and art. The children are encouraged to become innovators and risk takers inspired by engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with a real-life purpose.
“Technology makes possibilities. Design makes solutions.” John Maeda

The ferris wheel building continues! #OLGHy2 #OLGHDT
And so it begins! Our ferris wheels are underway as we start our DT project. #OLGHY2 #OLGHDT
Year 1 are very proud of their windmills. They took them outside to test that they worked in the wind. They then evaluated them against the design criteria. #olghy1 #olghdt @kapowprimary
During #OLGHDT, we have started our topic on pavilion structures. During our lesson, we have created a range of different shaped frame structures.

Year 1 have been busy assembling their windmills. We attached our sails today. We can’t wait to complete them next week. #olghyear1 #olghdt @kapowprimary
In DT today we have been planning how the wheel and axel in our ferris wheels are going to work when we begin building them next week. #OLGHDT #OLGHY2
Year 3 have been busy constructing nets to be used in their castles. #olghy3 #olghdt #olghkapow #olghdesigntechnologykapow
The children have been busy starting to assemble their windmills. We can’t wait to continue creating them next week. #olghy1 #olghdt #kapowdesigntechnology
The children have been learning about the feeding of the 5000. They made bread and decorated fish. #OLGHeyfs #OLGHart #OLGHdt #OLGHre #scripture #feedingofthe5000 #bread #fish
